![]() Russian twist is one of the most effective moves for the obliques, and is even more effective using a dumbbell or a weighted medicine ball. Contract the abs and curl the hips up off the floor, reaching your knees toward the ceiling. Bring the knees in up perpendicular to your body in a comfortable position with feet together (knees can be somewhat bent). Lie on the floor and place your hands on the floor at your side to stabilize you. This is a very small, subtle movement, but it’s quite effective. This move targets the rectus abdominis, but you’ll particularly feel it in the lower part of the abs. Hold for 60 seconds or as long as you can (shoot for at least 30 seconds). Keep your back flat and your abs pulled in. Curl your toes under and raise up onto your toes, resting on your elbows. To do a traditional plank, lie flat on your belly, resting on your forearms. Lift the shoulder blades up off the floor and twist to bring the right elbow towards the left knee as you straighten your right leg.
